about
Inspired by Q1 from The new city catechism. I wanted the song to reflect the joy of belonging wholly to God in Christ. I drew inspiration from Romans where Paul says “I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.” I like connecting the idea that we are God’s, living our lives for him. It is not a dreadful sacrifice to give up our worldly pursuits and follow God but one that should be marked by joy and worship.
lyrics
V1:
Our only hope in life, in death
Is Christ, our Lord, our King
We once were slaves, condemned, ashamed
Your blood has set us free
Your blood has ransomed me
Chorus:
If we live, if we die, We are the Lord’s
For we were bought with a price, We are the Lord’s
The life we live, a sacrifice, We are the Lord’s
Wholly free and Wholly Yours, We are the Lord’s
V2:
May we fully trust your living Word
To nourish, to guide, to see
How we might live and glorify
Your name in every deed
