In our suffering, in our pain, we get to taste some of what God experienced in giving his son over to sin, death, and the loss of not having him. In this way, the roots of the gospel sink down deep into our soul. It’s a true gift in the midst of suffering. Our experience of God’s love grows and becomes more real when we can see a fuller picture of this collective sacrifice for us.

Paul expanding on the thorn in his flesh - Three times I pleaded with the Lord about this, that it should leave me. 9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10 For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong. - 2 Corinthians 12:8-10
